Are you looking for a way to tone and tighten your skin without going under the knife? Dermatology on Bloor is proud to offer Thermage. This safe, comfortable, non-invasive, treatment has been clinically proven to help contour, smooth, and tighten skin. It utilizes gentle RF (radiofrequency) energy, which is safe for all skin colors and types, and can be used on the face, neck as well as other areas of the body. A single treatment can improve the appearance of your skin with little to no downtime.
What Thermage can accomplish
Thermage can treat virtually any area of the body, including the face, eyes, arms, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. It can temporarily improve the appearance of cellulite. Skin tightening and contouring results may last for many years depending on your skin health and other factors.
Thermage is used to improve:
- Loose, sagging or bulging skin including the jowls, neck area, and elsewhere on the body
- Under-eye bags, eyelid hooding, and other factors that contribute to the appearance of tired eyes
- Lack of definition of facial contours, especially around the lips and along the jawline
- Rough skin texture
- Fine lines, wrinkles, and crepe-like skin
Thermage is nonsurgical and noninvasive, it does not require any special preparations such as fasting or blood work. The procedure is comfortable, thanks to advanced temperature control. Each time the handpiece contacts your skin you will notice a brief cooling sensation, followed by a brief deep-heating sensation. It should not be painful; please tell us right away if you experience any discomfort so that we can adjust the device accordingly. For most patients, a single session is sufficient to achieve optimal results.
FAQs about Thermage
How does Thermage work?
This innovative technology uses RF (radiofrequency) to deep-heat dermal tissues. Your skin is composed of three main layers. The surface layer that you see is the epidermis. Beneath that is the dermis, which is rich with collagen. The final subcutaneous layer contains a network of collagen fibers. With age, the collagen fibers gradually break down, causing skin to sag and wrinkle. Because the majority of the collagen is in the deeper layers, procedures that only treat the surface are minimally effective, if at all.
Only Thermage can treat all three layers of the skin effectively and non-invasively. It causes a thermal reaction that tightens existing collagen for immediate tightening. It also stimulates collagen production and remodeling over the next several months.
How long does treatment take?
The length of your appointment will depend on the size of the area being treated. Facial treatment is usually completed in about 45 minutes. Larger areas usually take about 90 minutes. The procedure is fast and convenient, and so most patients find it easy to fit into their busy lifestyles.
How many sessions will I need?
The majority of patients only need one treatment. This is a great improvement over alternative skin tightening systems, which typically require about four sessions.
Are there any special instructions or precautions following the procedure?
Since Thermage is noninvasive, there is essentially no “recovery.” Most people continue with their normal activities immediately after treatment. You may experience mild swelling or a tinge of redness in the treatment area, but this typically fades within 24 hours.
How soon will I see results?
Some people notice a visible difference immediately, and other times the results develop more gradually. Thermage stimulates your body’s natural collagen remodeling process, so you will probably see continued improvement over the course of a few months. In most cases, measurable improvement is achieved within two to six months.
What differentiates Thermage technology from alternative skin tightening options?
Unlike many procedures, Thermage does not involve the use of injections, surgeries, or any other invasive techniques. It is completely non-invasive, and usually requires no downtime. Although certain lasers and similar technologies are also used for skin tightening, they do not heat as deeply as Thermage does. Because it targets the innermost skin layers, Thermage stimulates collagen production and tightens skin most effectively, resulting in overall improvement and a more youthful appearance. It is safe and effective for all skin colors and skin types, unlike laser skin tightening.
How do the results of Thermage skin tightening compare with those of alternate procedures?
Thermage is a great option for those who are seeking greater improvement than topical skin firming creams deliver, yet do not want, or are not ready for, surgery.
Is Thermage treatment approved by Health Canada?
Yes! This amazing skin rejuvenation treatment is used around the world. It has received approval from Health Canada as well as clearance from the FDA and similar acceptance from regulatory agencies in other countries.
