Intense Pulsed Light/Lime-light
LimeLight is intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment provided by Toronto practitioner
What is IPL Limelight?
The Limelight Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment, also known as the “Photofacial” is a light based treatment to target a variety of concerns. This technology has been used effectively in our practice for more than 15 years and DermOnBloor boasts the best light technician in the city – our nurse Lori.
IPL is a specialized tool that emits high-intensity pulses of various wavelengths of light. The light is converted to heat energy, which targets areas to be treated, which will cause damaged cells to slough off in a few days. Collagen production is simultaneously stimulated, and the skin is rejuvenated as the damaged cells are replaced with healthy new cells. This generates a renewed and more youthful appearance. IPL is not laser therapy; it is gentler.
What Concerns does IPL treat?
IPL is very effective in treating the skin for redness, freckles, and sun damage on the face or body. IPL also gives the skin a boost in producing extra collagen, which improves the skins tone and texture, and reduces lines and wrinkles. Our experienced provider tailors each treatment for the patient’s individual needs.
A treatment may be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the treatment areas. The patient is provided eye shields for protection, and then a light is emitted onto the skin. This flash of light can be very bright, and might be seen through the eye-shields; this is normal. The pulse is often compared to the slight-stinging sensation of an elastic band snapping against the skin, and can sometimes be more intense over fillings in the teeth.
After the Treatment: Results
After having an IPL treatment, a patient may notice that their skin is slightly swollen and/or mired. 5-10 days after treatment, treated areas may peel slightly, and brown areas may dry and peel off. This therapy allows visible improvement without the inconvenience of prolonged downtime and recovery. Improvements are generally accomplished through a series of treatments, depending on the concern that is being treated. Patients will enjoy smoother, brighter, and younger-looking skin. Results from treatment will be enjoyed longer by avoiding unprotected sun exposure.
Most patients can safely undergo this light-based therapy. Choosing the right provider is important to achieve desired results. For experienced and trusted service, we invite you to schedule a consultation for the procedure by calling Cosmetic Dermatology on Bloor.
