A well-defined jawline conveys strength and fortitude, and contributes to a balanced, polished and youthful appearance. But over time we may notice our jaw is moving closer to our neck. Our drooping jawlines have become jowls. How did we get to this point?
Wrinkles are indicative of changes in the lower layers of skin. As we get older, the collagen and elastin in our skin breaks, losing the skins firmness and bounce. The fatty subcutaneous layer diminishes and can’t support the skin’s surface and mid-layers as it once did. Gravity causes already loose tissue to sag.
Environmental and lifestyle factors like smoking and exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun or tanning beds also break down supportive connective tissue - the skin's foundation.
Drooping Jawline Correction
While neck and facelifts are a very effective way to regain definition of the jawline, you may not require or be ready for invasive surgery. At Dermatology on Bloor we boast a number of less invasive and highly effective treatments to correct your droopy jawline.
Using the synthetic poly-L-lactic acid, Sculptra distinguishes itself from collagen or hyaluronic fillers (like Juvéderm), as it’s considered a “thickening agent.” On average three sessions over two months help restore lost collagen, thereby firming up the jawline and lifting the face without surgical intervention.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers such as Juvéderm® or Restylane® can be used to add volume that will last for months.
Radiesse®, which is made from calcium hydroxylapatite, has a higher viscosity, and it can provide a lift to the facial structure.

Generally, you may choose between laser therapies that remove thin layers of skin or less invasive lasers that stimulate collagen production and tighten underlying tissue without actually removing skin.
Thermage works similarly to laser processes by using radiofrequency (RF) energy to heat areas of the skin like loose jowls. This treatment remodels the collagen that promotes skin firmness.
